About a week ago, I picked up these two new Formula X at Sephora and I was quite impressed and overwhelmed by how huge their new nail polish collection is. After swatching a few of them in store, my first impression was that they were easy to work with and the formula seems comparable to other high end brands. I brought home two of them just cause I couldn't help myself, hehe.
First off, packaging-wise I thought they were kind of meh! Ok, fine, I don't really like it. They look a bit bulky, squared, and look like the shape of a tombstone. I am relieved that the somewhat squared cap is detachable and that I don't have to hold it to paint my nails. The inner cap is easier to handle.
The brush is medium-small, round, and easy to use. That's perfect for me since I have smaller nails. Bigger brushes tend to make application messy for me.
Law of Attraction...oh what a name! It's got fine pale gold glitters and holographic sapphire glitters in a clear base. I love the contrast of the glitters in the mix. I think they make the perfect combo for attracting a nail junkie like myself. The formula wasn't goopy but the glitters in this polish are very dense so the brush picks up a lot of it. I'm sure that after using it for a few times, the formula is probably going to thicken up. On the swatch, I have just one coat over OPI Do You Lilac It. They spread out fairly evenly for the most part.
Thunder is a fun graffiti-like kind of glitters and I love the fact that the glitters are matte. The larger hex glitters are light pink and the rest is a combo of size between light pink and blue glitters. Again, the glitters are very dense and you can easily pick up a lot of them on the first pass. I didn't feel like the formula was thick at first but after doing these swatches and my daughter using it for a mani, it seems like the clear base has thickened up a little. I only did one coat over OPI Do You Lilac It and didn't have any trouble spreading out the glitters.
Overall, I really like them but at $12.50 a bottle. It's kind of pricey so I'd be a little bit picky.
Have you tried the new Formula X? What do you think of them?
I haven't tried them yet - only seen the massive collection. I just think $12.50 is too much for an in house brand - I never go through a whole bottle of polish, so like an $8 Essie is my max :)
ReplyDeleteYeah the price is high. I'd only go with the less common shades that I like
DeleteI think I like Thunder the best(those big hexagons! :o <33) but they're so pricey :(
ReplyDeleteI love how its got all different size size glitters. Hopefully sephora can put them on sale sale sometime
Deletereally cool! I love the matte glitters. A little pricey but I would deifnitely pick up just one!
ReplyDeleteYes its worth a try
DeleteI don't have any of the colours, but I do have the nail hydrator, which I haven't tried yet. I have a love-hate relationship with the packaging. I love the way it looks as a whole, but it is a pain in the butt always having to take off the first cap and the cylinder cap is always hard to remove for me, blah! But with the cap on, I just love the way it looks.
ReplyDeleteWell considering the price I think they could've done better with the packaging. Otherwise I line the new line overall.
DeleteOmg, I LOVE THUNDER! I would wear that over a dark gunmetal, a black or a dark blue! I love the mix of glitter bits!
ReplyDeleteIt can definitely look great with the colors u suggested
DeleteI like them, but not enough to spend that much I think.
ReplyDeleteTotally understand. Opinion might change if you saw in person.
DeleteThose colors are so pretty! I've been looking for new nail polish, might have to give this a try :)
ReplyDeleteMI VIVERE .
Ahh there's a lot of pretty new polishes at a sephora. They added deborah lippmann too
DeleteI absolutely loove thunder, especially over the lilac base!! To me $12.50 is a really good price considering OPI over here is $20 which suckss, I wish formula x was out when I was over there :/ xx
ReplyDeleteI can understand from your point of view. I think if I had to pay that much for makeup. I probably wouldn't be able to afford to have a beauty blog.
Deletegonna look for a dupe of this hun =)
ReplyDeleteI think you might be able to find something similar with indie sellers
DeleteBoth really pretty, but I agree with most regarding the price.
