Makeup Look Featuring Motives Cosmetics

Hello Lovelies,

Since Motives sent me a bit of everything for review and I had enough products to do a FOTD look, I decided to incorporate the products in a makeup look and so I came up with this fun look. It's not overly dramatic. I like the soft color on the lids and a pop of bright blue liner on the lower lash line. I feel that it makes me eyes look brighter and more awake. It's a very fun and simple look. I hyperlinked products I have swatched and reviewed if you are interested in reading more about them.

What I think about the brand overall...

I had a pleasant experience with the products that Motives sent me. Price-wise, they are mid-range, which still makes them affordable. Their packaging are simple, practical, and durable. In terms of quality, they do deliver and their products have a high-end feel and quality to them. My reviews are honest and I expressed what I liked about the product, as well as what I think could be improved.
My favorites are no doubt the Rich Formula Lipsticks, the Nail Lacquer, and the Custom Blend Foundation.

Motives products are available at http://www.motivesatlanta.com

If you by any chance decide to purchase from Motives, I would greatly appreciate if you put me as reference when you register. My email is xxxbeautyredefinedxxx@gmail.com. Motives has agreed to give 15% to 20% discount for my audience so be sure to mention that you were referred through my blog. You may message them for more detail on the discount. Motives Custom Blend Foundation - Review and Swatches

Hello Lovelies,

Today, I'll be reviewing this foundation, which was provided to me by Motives Cosmetics for review. One thing I appreciate about custom blend foundations is that they are specifically customized the formula for your skin type, skin color, and the coverage that you're looking for. Other than Motives and Prescriptives, I don't know who else does custom blend foundation.

I usually have a really hard time getting the right shade when purchasing drugstore foundations or when purchasing online. More than often, I would end up with a color that does not match and I usually have to have another foundation to mix it with in order to get a shade that is closer to my skin tone.

Typically, you would need to be present in order to have the foundation blended to match your skin color; however, since that was impossible in my case, I had to provide a few pictures of myself without any makeup and in natural daylight. I also told Motives that in most brands, the second or third lightest color have been the closest to my skin color and that I have neutral undertone. I'm happy to say that they did a pretty good job matching the foundation color to my skin.

Here's what's in my custom blend:
  • Light to medium coverage
  • Natural finish
  • oil control for my T-Zone
  • moisturizer
  • a bit of SPF

Now before we get into the nitty gritty stuff about this foundation, here's some stats about my skin. My skin is usually in pretty good condition on most days. I'm not acne prone but I get the occasional pimple, depending on stress and that time of the month. I exfoliate regularly, like 2-3 times a week, and I cleanse and  moisturize my face twice a day. I'm a bit oily on the T-zone, otherwise my skin is normal in other areas. I have some light freckles on my cheeks, uneven skintone, and some acne scars that I want my foundation to cover. On typical days, I prefer light to medium coverage. I don't feel the need to always look flawless but I like my face to look awake, refreshed, and natural. Being pale can often make me look like I'm sick.

Packaging
  • Standard glass bottle with a frosted finish. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a pump dispenser. I'm pretty sure that's a bummer for a lot of people, including myself.
  • I don't know exactly how much product is in that bottle since it doesn't say on the label but I would estimate that it looks to me like 1 oz.

Product
  • The formula on mine was rather thin and runny. However, when I applied it, I felt that it set quite quickly.
  • When I did one layer, I didn't notice much other than it evened out my skin tone. When I added a second layer, I was happy to see that it provided a medium coverage without looking cakey.
  • The finish was semi-matte and looked quite natural. I didn't feel the need to use a powder because it didn't make me look shiny.
  • I didn't detect any offensive, paint-like odor, coming from this foundation, which some foundation tend to have. It only had a very faint cosmetic scent to it. I don't know how to describe it but it's very subtle. You won't smell anything unless you put your nose right on top of it.
  • Another thing I noticed that this foundation does very well is controlling the oil on my T-zone. After 6 hours of wear, I see no shine. I was pretty happy about that. Not too many foundations can do that for me.
  • I typically look for a foundation that last 8-12 hours as I am too busy for any touch up. I am very pleased with the longevity of foundation. After 8 hours of wear, I barely notice any fading.

Final Thought

This foundation pretty much has everything that I expect and need in a foundation, well that's the beauty and advantage of being custom made and that's what makes this foundation special and different from others. You tell them what you want and they'll concoct the perfect formulation for you. What more can I ask for? I suppose a pump dispenser would be nice.

My rating: 9.5/10.

Price: $35-45, depending on add on and customizations.

Motives Rich Formula Peach Puff Lipstick - Review and Swatches

Hello Ladies,

Today, I'm reviewing this lipstick, which was sent to me by Motives for review.

What Motives say about these lipsticks
  • Luxurious and even coverage for luscious lips
  • Smooth, rich, creamy formula
  • Enriched with minerals and vitamins to increase wearability and add to the longevity of the true color
  • Creates eye-catching shine with extended wear to make your lips pop with color
  • Smoothes out fine lines and creases, while conditioning and hydrating the lips
  • Transforms into a fluid veil of radiant color when it touches your lips; so fabulous you will want one in every shade
  • Paraben free

Packaging
  • Round matte black lipstick tube with lipstick color at the base
  • .12 oz or 3.3 g

Product

  • Peach Puff is a light shimmery golden peachy color, slightly on the frosty side. Can't say that I love this color but I do like the fact that it is soft and muted and suitable for daytime wear.
  • The pigmentation was decent though leaning on the sheer side for this particular shade.
  • It tends to hightlight dry flaky skin so be sure to exfoliate before application
  • Now what I love about these lipsticks is how hydrating and comfortable they are on the lips. There's something about the formulation that makes them feel very smooth, moisturizing, and luxurious...qualities you typically get from a very expensive lipstick and that last just as long as the lipstick is on your lips.
  • I get a solid 4 hours of wear before it starts fading.
  • These lipsticks are unscented.

Final Thought

These are absolutely some of my favorite lipsticks. Definitely recommend you try them out if you are considering anything from the brand. The longevity is good and they have a nice range of color to choose from but the best part is the formula, which feels beautiful on the lips and last for hours. The price is mid-range but totally worth it if you want a rich and luxurious formula to go with it.

Rating: 10/10

Price: $14.95

Motives Pressed Blush Porcelain Doll - Swatch and Review

Hi Yall!

The weather has been improving these past few days and I'm so happy that Spring is here. Here I have a blush that Motives sent me for review.

What Motives say about their pressed blushes
  • Nourishes and conditions the skin without clogging pores
  • Blends well and layers exquisitely
  • Creates a natural, healthy glow so skin looks renewed and flawless
  • Instantly minimizes the look of imperfections and visible pores
  • Soft and luxurious texture in a satin-smooth, non-irritating formula
  • Paraben, fragrance and oil free
  • Works well for women of all skin types and colors

Packaging

  • Sturdy, practical, and durable.
  • .11 oz or 3 g

Product

  • Porcelain Doll is a cool tone pink with gold shimmers. The gold shimmers are noticeable but I don't think that they are over the top.
  • The pigmentation looks muted on my swatches but it does actually show up really well once I apply it to my cheeks.
  • It has a soft texture and is slightly powdery but the intensity of the color is buildable and blends easily. Apply a little for a flushed look or layer some more for doll-like cheeks.
  • It lasted quite well on my cheeks. After 8 hours of wear, I only noticed minimal fading.

Final Thought

Nice, blendable, buildable color, good pigmentation, long-wearing...These are qualities I typically want in a blush and this one did not disappoint.

Rating: 10/10

Motives Pressed Eyeshadow Fantasy - Swatch and Review

Hello Pretties,

Today, I'll be reviewing this pressed eyeshadow that Motives sent me for review.

What Motives says about their pressed eyeshadows
  • Impeccable color retention that does not run or crease so you always look your best
  • Even, smooth and silky application for a glamorous glow
  • Deflects the light away from fine lines, skin imperfections and hyper-pigmentation, creating a flawless look
  • Mix and match to create a soft, natural or dramatic look
  • Paraben, fragrance and oil free

Packaging

  • Sturdy, practical, and durable.
  • .06 oz or 1.8 g

Product

  • Fantasy is a shimmery medium lavender purple.
  • The texture is soft, finely milled, and easily blendable. I didn't get any fall out during application.
  • I thought the pigmentation on this particular shade was a bit weak yet it showed up fairly well over a good primer.
  • I didn't experience any creasing or fading after 8 hours with a good primer as base (I used Urban Decay Primer Potion).

Final Thought

I would have loved it much more if the pigmentation was a bit more intense but other than that it has some good qualities. The formula is soft, blendable, and I'm pleased that it didn't crease or fade after wearing it for 8 hours.

My rating: 9/10

Motives Luxe Precision Eye Liner Jet Black - Review and Swatches

Looks like a nice day outside. I really wished I could get out. The last time I was stuck at home for this long was when I was on maternity leave...Damnnn that was long time ago! It's been a rather long week for me. My ankle seems slightly improved though I still feel a bit of pain and tenderness. It's still quite swollen and I am most comfortable lying down with my ankle elevated. No fun for me. Hope next week goes faster.

On the bright side, I've been testing a few products and here's my review of the Motives Luxe Precision Eye Liner that Motives sent me for review.

What Motives say about the Luxe Precision Eye Liner

  • Waterproof, long-lasting formula
  • Velvet touch precision tip for accurate application
  • Will not scratch, tug, or slip
  • Available in neutral colors that will enhance your eyes’ natural beauty

Packaging

  • Maker type of eyeliner with a felt tip applicator. One thing I love about this type of applicator is that they are super easy to use and one nice thing about this particular liner is that the applicator is actually soft and not stiff like some. This makes application much more comfortable.
  • .04 oz or 1.2 ml

Product

  • Jet Black is quite black with just one pass. The applicator allows you to draw a medium to thick line and I found it rather easy to use though I wished it glided a little more upon application.
  • The longevity of this liner is awesome. It does not budge, smudge, or fade and stays put until I take it off.
  • It is however not waterproof as they stated. It does run and fade when in contact with water.

Final Thought

Overall, it's a nice eyeliner due to the ease of use, the soft felt-tip applicator, and longevity. I'm not sure why they labeled it as waterproof because I didn't find it to be the case.

Rating: 9/10

Motives Nail Lacquer Tahiti Surf - Swatch and Review

Hello Lovelies,

Today, I'll be reviewing for you a nail polish that was sent to me by Motives Cosmetics for review.

What Motives say about their nail polishes
  • Long-lasting color
  • Brilliant, chip-resistant finish
  • Easy, smooth application
  • Sexy, trend-setting colors for every look
  • Free of toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate

Tahiti Surf is a beautiful teal blue with fine green shimmers. When I first saw it I thought oh wow this is nice! It looks very ocean-ish/tropical and that hint of green shimmers just adds more interest to the color. I felt like my nails were on vacation, ahah.

This polish comes with a small round brush, which I find worked well for me, especially since I have narrow nails. The formula was also really nice to work with. It was slightly on the thin side yet nicely pigmented and spread easily and smoothly on my nails without pooling. I was able to get opacity with just two coats. I love how shiny and glossy it looked upon application without the help of a top coat.

I wore it for 5 days, without base coat or top coat, and I noticed some minor tip wear and a couple small chips on some of my nails. It probably would have lasted a bit longer if I used a base and top coat.

As far as drying time, I would say about average. It was very hard for my camera to capture an accurate color on the nail swatches. For some reason, it makes the color look much brighter. The true color actually looks more like what you see on the bottle shot.

Overall, gorgeous color and wonderful formula to work with. Lasted fairly well, considering that I did not use a base or top coat.

My rating: 9.5/10

Price: $6.95

Motives Cosmetics Haul

Happy Friday Lovelies,

I am super duper excited to share with you what I received today. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a Motives representative asking me if I would be interested in reviewing some of their products. I've had the chance to own one of their lipstick a couple years ago. It was given to me as gift by a friend. If you would like to read my review, you can click HERE. Everyone that I know who have used Motives Cosmetics have nothing but good things to say. I, myself, was also very impressed with the Motives lipstick I previously owned so there was no hesitation on my part for this wonderful opportunity to try out more.

With that said, I wanted to show you a sneak peak of some upcoming reviews, swatches, and makeup look regarding these products.

They arrived in perfect condition, boxed and carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and extra paper for cushion. I think it's important that companies package their product with care to prevent damages so it was nice to see that Motives delivered.

Motives Custom Blend Foundation

Motives Custom Blend foundation requires the customer to be present in order to customize the foundation specific to the customer's need and skin color. Since it was impossible for me to be present for the consultation, I shared with the PR what I need in a foundation, filled out a survey, and submitted several pictures of myself with no makeup on and in natural daylight. I'm happy to say that they did a pretty good job with the color match. More details to follow when I do my review.

If you are interested to check out the rest of their product line, feel free to visit them at http://www.motivesatlanta.com

Reviews will follow in the next couple weeks once I get a good feel for the products in order to deliver an accurate review. Although these products were provided by the company for review consideration, rest assure that I will still be completely honest with my review.

Have you heard of or tried Motives Cosmetics? If yes, what did you think of them?

**Update: if you by any chance decide to purchase from Motives before I get to review these products, I would greatly appreciate if you put me as reference when you register. My High-End Lipstick Collection and Swatches

The first week of the month is always a busy and hectic week for me as I have to put in extra hours and more work to meet our monthly deadline. I was pretty pooped at the end of the days which is why I have been absent from blogging this week. Nonetheless, I did manage to haul a few new products and have taken pix and tested some of them already but that will be on another posts.
I usually take pictures of the stuff I plan to blog ahead of time and have them resized and what not. Some of these pictures get left behind unfornately as I find it difficult to keep up with my busy schedule and the constant hauling. Oh well, I say to myself better late than never.
As you can see on the picture above, I have a little over a dozen of high-end lipstick brands, not including MAC. As a beauty blogger or even just a beauty enthusiast, I believe we all love to experiment with new products.
To be honest, I don't reach for my high-end lipstick as often as I think I should. Thus, why I've refrained from buying anymore unless something strike me as interesting. High-end lipsticks cost about $14-$45, depending on the brand or where you purchase them from. I purchased most of these lipsticks during a sale or from discounted stores so some of them are no longer available or hard to find. I will hyperlink those I have reviewed or have additional pictures.

First set of lipsticks and swatches from left to right
  • YSL Rouge Pur 66
  • YSL Rouge Pur Couture 04
  • Lancome Color Fever Rose Tempest
  • Lancome Color Fever Enticing Rose
  • Dior Addict Lip Color Rose Broderie 663.
  • NARS Niagara.

Second set of lipsticks and swatches from left to right

Third set of lipsticks from left to right

I'm surprised there are still a few of these lipsticks I still haven't reviewed. But anways, my personal favorites of the bunch are Lancome, Guerlain, YSL, Motives, and Shiseido. They have excellent formula and pigmentation and feel very luxurious on the lips.

Hope you found this post helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Motives Lipstick - Raspberry Burst

A few weeks ago, I received this lipsticks as a gift from Teena Z. When I opened the package and stared at the product in the tube, it looked very red and I thought hmmm, this doesn't look raspberry to me, lol.
However, once I swatched and applied it on myself, I was like WOW! It certainly does have a raspberry tinge to it.

Packaging
  • Sleek and round
  • .12 oz or 3.3 g
  • Color of the lipstick can be seen at the bottom of the tube
Product
  • This particular shade may be subject to personal preference. It's a raspberry/cherry color, which I find looks great on my skin tone and I can imagine it would look great on most people. But then again, since this is more of a bolder color, some people may not like it. I personally love it.
  • I think the formula of this lipstick is excellent. It's very pigmented, applies smoothly, and doesn't feel slippery.
  • This color will stain your lips
  • It has a satin sheen to it
  • I don't detect any scent, which I don't mind at all
  • I haven't worn it long enough to comment on how long this will last on your lips but judging from the look and feel of the formula, I would estimate an average of 2-3 hours.
Conclusion

I absolutely love how this lipstick applies. The formula definitely has a high-end feel to it. The only con I can think of is that this brand of makeup is not really popular and only available online. I haven't tried any other products from this line but so far, I'm loving this lipstick. I heard their eyeshadows are extremely pigmented. This is a brand I would love to discover more about.

Here is a link to Motives website if you are interested in checking out their product line.
