What's Your Inner Beauty?

Hello Lovelies,

I was inspired by Jasmine to do this post. Beauty can be seen and interpreted in many ways. I think every country, ethnicity, and individuals have their own definition of what they think is beautiful.

To be honest, I feel that the media plays a big role at setting beauty standards and they seem to be majorly centered around celebrities,  models, and their physique. Many of us envy and idolize their curvy, thin figure and their gorgeous faces but aside from the beauty facades that we see with your eyes, they are human just like the rest of us.

I'm far from meeting those beauty standards. I don't have flawless skin. My body is so out of shape. I don't have enough hair...well you get the idea. Ironically, I maintain a beauty blog that focuses on beauty products, nails, and makeup...things that are meant to make you look pretty or prettier.

I wanted to take this moment to reflect on the things that people don't see, and only those who have taken the time to know me only knows. I'm talking about inner beauty. As much as I enjoy to prettify myself, just cause it makes me feel better and I like having fun with it. The truth is I work even harder on my inner beauty. I don't really talk about personal stuff on my blog, just cause I don't think it's appropriate in most cases.

I'm going to list 5 things that I think makes me beautiful inside and 5 things that I and working to improve.

My Inner Beauty

1. I'm an unselfish and generous person. This is a quality that has caused me just as much pain as joy to be able and willing to give, help, and be there for others. I've been lied to, taken advantage of, and paid the price. I'm sure many of you have been in this situation at some point in your life and that you can relate. All I ever want back is to be appreciated and it's very disheartening and hurtful when someone you've gone out of your ways to help makes you feel insignificant and what you did out of love and compassion was worthless to them. If anyone showed you kindness, the least you can do is make them feel appreciated. I think people tend to forget that.

2. I'm patient. In the past, I guess I was more of a push over but I've learned through my experiences to differentiate between the goods and the bads. Patience is a virtue but it's not always the solution to a problem. The best way to practice patience is knowing when it is needed.

3. I'm understanding. I'm very analytic. I take into consideration all the facts, the possibilities, and the reasons, before I form a judgement or opinion. I know we're humans and no one is perfect. Sometimes we do stupid things but if it was for a good cause and the intention behind it is honest then I can look past someone's mistake.

4. I'm true to myself and others. Nothing annoys me more when I know or feel that someone is lying, faking the funk, or pretending. I'm very bad at lying anyways and I hate having a guilty conscience. I would prefer if someone hates me for being honest than someone loving me for being fake.

5. I'm easy going. Even if it may seem that I have peculiar taste in fashion, makeup, or other things in life, I am overall a very simple person and easy to get along with. I pretty much would agree to anything as long as I am treated fairly.

Things That Need More Work

1. Acceptance. I am often at war with myself. I am my hardest critic. I am very hard on myself when I feel that I am not good enough, I did something wrong, or that I failed at something. I try to accept and forgive myself for not meeting my own standards.

2. Learning to let go. I hate to admit it but I have a hard time letting go of my past sufferings. They say time heal all wounds but in my case it's not always true. Time just puts them to sleep. For the most part, they remain dormant deep down and I often forget about them until something or someone scratches the surface and I relapse right back into the state I used to be. I don't think there's a cure for it. On a brighter note, I don't really regret any of it. I think it has made me more humble and taught me how to be a better person, how to treat others, and deepen my perspective.

3. Controlling issues. No, I do not impose my control over people but I have controlling issues with myself and the situation I'm in. There are certain things I can't control and I tend to beat myself up for it. I think to myself...what if you did this, what if you tried that, maybe it wouldn't be this way. I have to remind myself that it is what it is. Just keep moving. You're not super woman.

4. Motivation. Eh, I sure am low on that. Feel free to enlighten me. What keeps you motivated and what do you do to stay motivated?

5. Socialize. My life is pretty laid back. Sure I have a few friends. Sure I hang out with my family and friends every once in a blue moon but I don't know, I still think I'm socially challenged, lol. I wish I was a little crazier, wilder, and louder, perhaps that would help? I just don't have that in me. I'm a mom, I'm mild, and I rather stay home than hitting up the clubs or bars. -_-

Ok so this post turned out to be a lot longer than I anticipated. I hope it helps remind others that they should also embrace their inner beauty. I think we sometimes get caught up with so many things that we forget ourselves, our worth, and what makes us truly beautiful.

Feel free to share your inner beauty, what makes you feel beautiful, whatever you think of inner beauty, or share some advice and inspiration to me?

Sephora's Wishlist and First Impressions

Yesterday, I was at Sephora checking out the new stuff and holiday sets because I was planning on ordering online and use the "friends and family 20% discount," which happens only once a year. And for those who don't know it, Sephora rarely have discounts unless it's on their clearance sales but those are usually things I normally don't have much interest in.

I wanted to at least test out the products in store to I get a good idea of how the products feel and smell like before ordering. Wheweee...I tell you, there was a LOT of stuff I wanted! lol...So I've started a list and now I'm going to start a process of elimination because I just can't afford all those :(.
Use coupon code FF2010 at check out for 20% off your entire online purchase from now till November 3rd.
Disclaimer-The following pictures are not mine and taken from Sephora's website. Follow the links for more products info.

Here are some items I've been considering:

Buxom City Slickers set (4 lipglosses and 4 lipstick/pencil, Limited Edition). Why I like this set? The products smells good, the lipglosses are semi-opaque and the lipsticks feels pretty opaque too, something new to try, it offers a variety of shades like nude, pink, mauve, and plum. $39.

Korres 10-color pencil kit for eyes (Limited Edition) - Why I want this set? You get "10 full-size" pencils in variety of shades. Colors feel rich, creamy, pigmented, and appear to be long-wearing. $32.50

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P268602&categoryId=B70

YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick. I currently have a fetish for lipsticks and looking out for a few high-end brands to try. YSL is definitely on the list! Plus this is new to the line. $30

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P272319&categoryId=B70

Urban Decay - The Black Palette (Limited Edition). For some reason, I personally find these shades more appealing than the Book of Shadows. The colors are incredibly smooth and pigmented. $36.

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P272318&categoryId=B70

Guerlain Rouge G lipstick. Getting one of these will fulfill one of my lipstick fetish. This is a perfect time to get it with the discount because it's insanely expensive and NEVER on sale. $46.

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P236400&categoryId=B70

Illamasqua Liquid Metal Palette (Limited Edition). Colors are rich, pigmented, creamy, and metallic. Perfect to use as a base and perhaps alone. I don't know if it is long-wearing and creaseless but I have nothing quite like it. $42.50

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P263108&categoryId=B70

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There were other products that I was also considering but I will wait to see if they go on clearance after Christmas, if not it's ok because they were just nice to have not must haves for me.

Products I may consider later if still available and on clearance:

The Kat Von D Painted Love lipstick set. I found the lipsticks wayyyy too mini (seriously, these are super small)but the packaging is gorgeous! 6 different variety of shades. If it goes on clearance, I will grab one set. $28

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P270315&categoryId=B70

LORAC Box Office Sensation is probably a set you will get more bangs for your bucks because you get 49 different shades for eyes, lips, and cheeks. This is good for people who want to play with more colors without spending a ton of money. Most colors are subtle and office appropriate. I've never tried LORAC eyeshadows so I'm not sure how well they perform. I personally don't need it, lol...but I mainly was interested in the blushes from that set. I may not get this one. Just lusting, haha! $56.

 http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P272811&categoryId=B70

Smashbox Eyewish palette (Limited Edition). 12 eyeshadows, 4 cream eyeliners, mini Lash DNA, and mini eyeshadow primer. I purchased the Eyewish palette from last year (when it was on clearance) and this new palette definitely includes more products than the last one. When I tested the shades, they felt creamy and pigmented so for a first impression, I was not disappointed. The Eyewish palette from last year left me with such a bad impression that I wasn't sure how much better this one will be, but so far so good. Then again, I wouldn't buy this unless it goes on clearance. $45.

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P270005&categoryId=B70

Tarte The Jewelry Box. This set offers a generous amount of products that most other Brands will not do on a value set. You will get a lot of use out of it. For someone like me, I will never hit pan on it...EVER or even come close to it, lol. 32 eyeshadows, 8 lipglosses, 1 mineral bronzer, 1 shimmering powder, 5 long-wearing eyeliners, and a detachable necklace! I personally never tried their eyeshadows so I can't really say much about them but for other Tarte products that I have tried, I was not disappointed (except for the mineral pressed powder, which I didn't feel like it did anything except mattifying my skin). $52.

http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P275305&categoryId=B70

Urban Decay Little Sins eyeshadow primers set (Limited Edition). I only wanted the gold primer! lol I figured it's not worth spending $29 on a set just to get it unless I can resell the rest. I'm on the fence with this one.

Sephora by OPI, 18 pc set of mini nail polish for $48. This is a great way to try out different shades without spending a lot of money on full size nail polishes. Nice to have for nail polish fanatics. I will most likely leave this one since I have so many nail polishes already.

The Art of Beauty

Beauty comes in many shapes and forms and has been an integral part of our lives since the beginning of time but how does one defines what beauty really is? You may have heard the popular saying like “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” or “beauty is skin deep.”
Some may define beauty as symmetry, proportion, and perfection. A beauty mask based on the Golden Ratio was developed to unveil the math behind the beauty. According to scientific studies, we tend to be more attracted to faces and bodies that are proportioned because they appear to be healthier. Individuals with physical beauty are more likely to be successful; thus making them more desirable. Others believe beauty is based on perception.  I would personally agree with the latter. There is no absolute beauty because it is subjective to our personal taste.
While men often see beauty as something to be desired, women associate beauty with self-gratification. When we feel good about ourselves, we get this happy chemical reaction radiating throughout our body. The quest for beauty doesn’t necessarily make a person vain or superficial. What makes a person vain is his or her excessive attitude toward self-pride and appearance.
I am tremendously guilty of self-gratification. I have a tendency to indulge on the things that I enjoy. Perhaps it’s my way of filling the void and be happy on my own. I wasn’t always this way. There was a time I put everyone else before me and lost touch with myself.
I think of beauty as an art. Beauty is relative to the way we express ourselves such as our feelings, thoughts, behaviours, how we carry ourselves, how we treat ourselves and others, our personal style, etc. Beauty is something we can manipulate and mold into whatever form we desire. The art of beauty isn’t about creating perfection but harmony and balance both internally and externally. When I was a young girl, I’ve always had a love for art. I was pretty good actually. My art instructors have always seen a potential in me. I’ve recently rekindle with my love for art through a different medium...Makeup!
It all started about a year ago, when I was introduced the infamous 120 eyeshadow palette. Ever since then, I was determined to master this art. Although, many younger and more talented people are way ahead of me, I am determined to uncover my own creativity and the possibilities.
