Requested Valentine Makeup Look

Jennifer D requested that I do a Valentine makeup look using brown and purple. So I tried to make this look more Valentine-ish. I think it worked. I would have gone with bolder lips but I figure not too many people would be willing to sport that so I decided to make it look as wearable as can be and still have colors and look pretty.

Eyes
  • I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the lids before starting.
  • I am using NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Velvet Rope and Champagne & Caviar.
  • Color 1 was applied over the lids
  • Color 2 was applied on the crease and lower lash line
  • Color 3 was applied on the outter V
  • Color 4 was applied on the brow bone
  • On my upper lash line, I'm wearing Stila Smudge Pot in black and over it I used the NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Expreme Purple for a little pop of color.
  • To accentuate my eyes, I used top and bottom lashes that looks natural.
Cheeks
Lips
  • I wanted my lips to look pouty, luscious, and kissable. I used Revlon Pink Pout lipstick and over it I applied Revlon Colorburst Peony lipgloss. The shine from the gloss gives the lips a fuller appearance.

Hope you guys enjoyed it. I will try to do another Valentine look by the end of the week. Feel free to leave a makeup look request. I'd be happy to give it a whirl.

FOTD + OOTD + What I Bought Today XD

LOL ok rhyming the title was not intentional but it's actually what this post is all about.
I was at the mall yesterday with my daughter and her friends, and had to go back there again today with my boys because he needed a new tie and vest for his winter formal school dance party.
Anyways, I like to take the time to put my face on and look nice on the weekends since I have more time to do so and perhaps take wayyy to long with the process, especially that I had to take pix for you guys :D

  • On my eyes, I'm wearing Wet N Wild Kitten all over my lids. It's actually not as pigmented as I anticipated, gets a bit chalky, and had some fall out.
  • On the crease I'm wearing a medium brown color and on the brow bone a shimmery light pink from NYX Champagne and Caviar Palette.
  • On the outter V, I'm wearing the matte dark plum from Wet N Wild Lust palette.
  • On the upper lash line, I'm wearing MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in Desires & Devices, which is a dark shimmery antique gold.
  • On the lower lash line, I'm wearing MAC Pearl Glide Intense eyeliner in Black Line.
  • On my lashes, I'm wearing Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara.
  • On my eyebrows, I'm wearing Make Up Forever Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector 3.
  • On my cheeks, I'm wearing MAC Hang Loose blush.
  • On my lips, I'm wearing NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Beige Pearl.

So this is what I wore today to go the mall with my kiddos.
  • A black sweater dress from Marshalls with a pair of black knitted leggings from Dots.
  • Double breasted peacoat from Victoria Secret. I don't think it's available anymore. My bf bought it for me last year and I'm totally in love with the color. It's fuschia with plaided grey and dark purple running through it.
  • A comfy pair of flats in grey with plaided patterns too.
  • Necklace with Hello Kitty. It was actually a charm for cellphone that I bought when I was in Vegas last year and put it on a necklace.

What I bought today is this pretty off-white double-breasted coat from New York & Co. It was originally priced at $119.99 and I got it for half off for $60.00!!! Amazing! Coats are going on clearance and this is the best time to get them for cheap so check it out.

Below are the Baker shoes I paired with my new coat. I like the peep toe, the mesh fabric, and the gold studs around it. I bought them a couple months ago and they were on sale. I can't remember how much I paid but I'm pretty sure it was less than $30.00. I'm not sure if these are still available because I didn't see them in stores last I checked. For the record, they are very comfortable, considering the height of the heels. 5 inches, I'd say. But it's got like an inch platform.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss - Fire

I picked this one up at CVS and used my $5.00 rewards coupon for it so it turned up pretty cheap. Normally retails for about $7-8 depending on where you buy. I like to have a few bold colors in my collection and this one looked like it would fit that description.

Packaging
  • I like it. It looks classy and high end.
  • The cap has the same quilted pattern as the Colorburst Lipsticks.
  • Comes with a doe-foot applicator; however, it is more rounded and is slightly curved-in the center. Because its shape, picks up more product.
  • .20 oz or 5.9 mL
Product
  • Fire is pleasantly more pigmented that the other shades I've reviewed. It applies nearly opaque and is a creme finish. The color looks more like a bright red cherry to me.
  • This line comes in a pretty decent variety of colors.
  • Feels light-weight and non-sticky
  • Lighter shades will appear more sheered. Darker shades have better pigmentation.
  • Lighter shades last about 1-2 hours. Darker shade will last at least 2 hours and leave behind a tint of color.
  • It smells kinda like vanilla and caramel. The scent doesn't bother me and fades really quickly. The gloss has no taste.

Verdict

I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I think it's a pretty decent product for the price. The packaging is very nice. The pigmentation is pretty good on this particular shade. Some people will find red difficult to wear but I think anyone can pull off red. It's just that not everyone has the courage to wear it. I find it moisturizing and the staying power decent. The price is reasonable but you could save a few bucks if you wait for it to go on sale. My rating would be 8/10. I gave this particular color a higher grade because the pigmentation and staying power was better than the lighter shades.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss - Papaya

This was another Revlon lipgloss I picked up as part of the BOGO sale from Walgreens last week. I had a very difficult time picking and choosing which color I wanted to try because they all looked so pretty and there was so many of them. If you haven't done so already, I just reviewed the shade Peony, and also reviewed Bordeaux about a month ago so if you are interested in these lipglosses, be sure to check these out as well.

Product
  • Papaya is a shade that pretty much speaks for itself. They couldn't have picked a better name for it. It has pink and gold shimmers but they are very very fine.
  • This line comes in a pretty decent variety of colors.
  • Feels light-weight and non-sticky
  • Sheerer than it looks in the tube but since this particular shade is a bit darker, it shows up fairly well and will look great on any skin tone.
  • Last about 2 hours.
  • It smells kinda like vanilla and caramel. The scent doesn't bother me and fades really quickly. The gloss has no taste.

Verdict

I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I think it's a pretty decent product for the price. The packaging is very nice. The pigmentation is decent on this particular shade but still leans on the sheerer side. I find it moisturizing though the staying power isn't that great. The price is reasonable but you could save a few bucks if you wait for it to go on sale. My rating would be 7/10.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss - Peony

I purchased these new Revlon Colorburst lipglosses about a week ago. They were on BOGO 50% sale at Walgreens. I first spotted these at Kmart over a month ago. I bought my first one in the shade Bordeaux. If you want to check it out you can click >>here<< to view my review on it. The retail price is about $7-8. Price may vary depending on where you buy.

Product
  • Peony is a soft light pink with pink and gold shimmers. This color reminds me of NARS Orgasm lipgloss but I don't have it so I can't tell you if they are dupes or not.
  • This line comes in a pretty decent variety of colors.
  • Feels light-weight and non-sticky
  • Sheerer than it looks in the tube
  • Last about 1-2 hours. So you may need frequent re-application.
  • It smells kinda like vanilla and caramel. The scent doesn't bother me and fades really quickly. The gloss has no taste.

Verdict

I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I think it's a pretty decent product for the price. The packaging is very nice. The pigmentation is more sheered on lighter colors so if you want the color to show up better, don't be afraid to pick a shade that appears darker. I find it moisturizing though the staying power isn't that great. The price is reasonable but you could save a few bucks if you wait for it to go on sale. My rating would be 7/10.

NARS Orgasm Illuminator

About a month ago, I was at Sephora and picked up this NARS product which was part of my 100 point perks as a Beauty Insider...which means, I didn't pay for it. For every dollar you spend, you will receive 1 point and every time you reach 100 points you can redeem them for something. They are usually mini/sample which are large enough for several uses and give you a chance to try out something new.
This sample size is 0.29 oz or 8 mL. The regular size is 1.1 oz and costs $29.00. Pretty expensive, if you ask me.

Packaging
  • There is really nothing fancy, shmancy, or high end about it. It's just a clear plastic tube with a black cap and black prints on it. I looked up the full size picture on Sephora's website and it looks just the same.
  • Practical and cheap.
Product
  • It's a very pretty, sheer, and shimmery peachy pink with very fine gold shimmers.
  • It adds a dewy, glowy finish that looks pretty natural and flattering.
  • It's best to apply it with a duo fibre brush.
  • My main complaint would be that the dewy glowy thing don't last. It disappears after like an hour or so.
  • I am not sure how this will show up on darker skin tone because it looks very very subtle on me and I have a pretty light complexion.

Verdict

I wouldn't purchase it. If only the dewy glow would last me at least through half the day, I might consider it but it faded so quickly that I find it quite disappointing for such a high-end brand like NARS. For the price and with such a cheap packaging, it's totally not worth it. You may have better luck with their blushes and they are a couple bucks cheaper.

WNW Gray's Anatomy Vs. OPI Not Like The Movies

I slept in today because of work and schools are closed to the snow blizzard we had last night. Yaye!! I woke up super late cause I was up pretty late last night to take pictures of all the goodies I've been hauling. OMG, that was a lot of work I tell ya.

So if you have been watching out for the new beauty products which recently released, you probably heard about these or have already bought them. This post is to compare these two similar nail polishes so you can decide for yourself whether you want one rather than the other or go for both.
As you can see, in the bottle, they look very similar. Both have a trio-chrome mix of grey, green, and purple...but how similar are they when swatched? First check out the pictures.

OPI Not Like The Movies. 3 coats.

Wet N Wild Gray's Anatomy. 3 Coats.

Side by side swatch comparison

  • OPI nail polish retails about $8.50 for a full size bottle. Wet N Wild polishes cost $1.99.
  • A full size OPI nail polish contains 15 mL or 0.5 oz. A full size Wet N Wild polish contains 13.5 mL or 0.46 oz.
  • OPI can be found at Ulta, Trade Secret, online, and wherever you find a store that sells professional nail polishes. Wet N Wild can be found in Walgreens, CVS, drugstores, some Wal-Mart carries them too.
  • Color difference/similarities. Both have green, purple, and grey. The purple color is more prominent in Gray's Anatomy. The trio-chrome effect is better on Not Like The Movies, in my opinion because the polish looks like it has more depths and dimension, whereas Grays Anatomy looks a little more "flat".  Not Like The Movies has flecks of very fine gold shimmer that Gray's Anatomy doesn't have. I know I said silver shimmers on my earlier post but the more I look at it the more gold it looks actually. It's so tiny, it's hard to distinguish the real color of the flecks.
  • Formula. I definitely favor the formula of OPI. Even with 3 coats, it significantly dries faster than the WNW polish. Gray's Anatomy is also sheerer than Not Like The Movies, 3 coats doesn't seem to  help much. I haven't worn them long enough to tell you how well they last so I can't comment on that.
Verdict

Definitely go for the Not Like The Movies polish if you don't mind paying $6.51 more...but in return you do get what you pay for, better pigmentation, better color, and formula. However, with those extra bucks you could get yourself 2 more Wet N Wild nail polishes. In the end, I guess it's a matter of preference and how much you are willing to spend.
As with many makeup products, there may be a similarity between colors but the big difference is in the formula and price. Personally, OPI would be my pick because I prefer the quality of it and don't mind paying more for it.

Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Let me know. I'm always happy to answer to the best of my knowledge :)
