FOTD - Mermaid Inspired Look with ELF Mineral Pigments

I know it's not Halloween, lol...but I love how tropical and summery this looks is. After hauling a lot of ELF eyeshadow pigments, I of course wanted to test how they work out. The best way to find out is to attempt an eyeshadow look.
First off, I can tell you that using pigments as eyeshadows are a pain. They are messy. I'm reminded once more why I prefer pressed eyeshadows.
Saturday, I attempted to use Girly and after failing miserably I decided to wipe it off and head out to the mall. I tried using it wet and the color just ended up looking patchy and muddy.
For this mermaid inspired look, I tried to use Flirty all over my lids and just couldn't get it to look good. After 3 failed attempts, I finally got it to work on my crease. Don't ask me how is that possible, lol. I still don't know how I managed to make it look alright on my crease.
So far what I can tell you about these ELF mineral eyeshadows is that some shades turn out great and some are difficult to work with. They blend out easily, can look muddy, and don't adhere to the skin very well.
My recommendation would be to use an emolient base. It will grab on to the pigments and keep them in place better. Another tip would be to pack the shadow on a flat shader brush and just pat it where you want it to go. Avoid swipping your brush back and forth. If you need to blend, be a little more gentle since they fall out easily. I haven't had much luck using them wet. I don't know if maybe I'm not doing something right. Also, I'm thinking perhaps using a foam tip applicator instead of a brush may work better, IDK.

For this look, Flirty gave me a hard time. I couldn't get Beachy to look as dark as it is in the pot. Fortunately, Dreamy applied nicely.
Anyways, if you didn't get to see my haul and swatches of the ELF Mineral eyeshadows, you may click HERE to view pictures and swatches of all the colors that I got.
My son came in my room while I have my mermaid face on and he goes "woah! You have a lot of makeup!" hhahahha, too funny. I told him "ughh I'm just playing with my makeup!"
Ok, for the record, I hardly ever get out the house with all these bright and fun colors on my face. Most of these dramatic looks are for experimental and inspiration purpose.

  3. I can't believe you had as tough of a time as you did working with these shadows! That's truly unfortunate. I found them quite easy to work with, and they blended really well for me. I've done several different looks with these thus far, and I'm very pleased. This look is beyond gorgeous. You are my inspiration lol :)
