Orly Cosmic FX Collection Swatches - It's Not Rocket Science, Space Cadet, Halleys Comet, Out of this World

I spent pretty much all day in meetings today, which at times turned into a circus. Yeah there was those awkward moments when you don't know if people are just being funny or rude or both but you just have to LOL at how incredibly ridiculous things sound. Like one co-worker said to me before "we are like a dysfunctional family." I guess that's a good way to put it. Oh my way home, I had to stop by the store and get some retail therapy. That was too much craziness and too much info to process in one day.

Now unto merrier things...

I'm trying hard not to buy too many new polishes. I still have many old ones that I haven't even swatched yet. It's kinda sad now that I think of it. When these Orly Cosmic FX polishes came out, I went out like a mad woman looking for them. They were supposed to be limited edition but I still see them at Ulta so I don't know if they never were able to sell them all or if they've decided to not make them limited editions anymore.  Since you may still be able to find these, I thought it wouldn't hurt to add some swatches, even though they are fairly old.

It's Not Rocket Science is a murky swampy kind of green with gold and green fleck shimmers. On the bottle you can see a bit of teal duochrome to it but it's barely noticeable on the nails. I still think this is a cool color though it might not appeal to some. It is sheer but the formula is easy to work with and can look opaque in 3 coats.

Space Cadet is undeniably my favorite one from the collection. If you can find it, GET IT! You won't regret it. It's a very unique color and has a fantastic and strong duochrome shift. It looks a bit bronzy, greenish, and purplish. Such a complex color I don't even know how to describe it. This is the kind of color that makes me want to squeal and drool when I see it, lol. The finish is slightly metallic looking and less grainy. It's sheer but 3 coats will do the job.

Halleys Comet is a teal blue with sparkling teal fleck shimmers. Not much duochrominess in this one but the grainy sparkling look gives it depth and adds interest. Also needed 3 coats for opacity.

Out of this World is kinda mehh for me as compared to the rest in this collection but still pretty in its on ways. It's a dark purple shimmer with a subtle greenish gold speckled shimmers. Hardly noticeable but it's there. I have 3 coats on the swatches.

Overall, these pretty much all needed 3 coats. I'm perfectly find with this type of polish because the sheerness of the base gives more depth and dimensions to the fleck shimmers. The formula was also pretty easy to work with. Space Cadet had the strongest duochrome. The second best from this collection is Galaxy Girl, which I swatched on a different post. It was the hardest for me to find but fate has brought me to it when it mysteriously surfaced at TJ Maxx while I was looking around. So those two would be the ones I'd recommend you get if you can find them.

**Update** These are available at Beauty.com and on Ebay.

  6. I love all of these, I can't even pick a favorite! I have not seen these at Ulta but I'll have to pop in and check sometime. I don't get in there very often.

    1. yeah Ulta is a bit of a drive for me so I don't go there often either. Mine still sell a few of these but they're a bit pricey at Ulta.

  7. I love ORLY polishes and it seems rare to me to actually see ORLY swatches. I mean they are out there, but they are not as popular as China Glaze or OPI. When I see ORLY swatches, it excites me because I love this brand. I have wanted Space Cadet from the first moment I laid eyes on it...I really need to get this. All of your swatches are beautiful! I was over the moon when Ulta finally came to my town, but I have to say they are quite expensive! I really don't shop there as much I thought I would.

    1. Oh and Halleys Comet is beautiful, but it reminds me of Zoya Charla (which I have). Are they close to being dupes?

    2. Orly is a pretty good brand and I think they have like 20% more product in their bottles as compared to the typical polish. I am indeed surprised people don't talk enough about them. I don't have Charla but I looked up the swatches and they are a pretty good dupe of each other.

  8. ORLY ended up making many of the Cosmic FX polishes permanent. I recently got Halley in the updated packaging, so it's not just a bottle that wasn't sold.
