NYX Super Skinny Marker Carbon Black - Swatch and Review

Not long ago, I purchased this eyeliner from Ulta during their BOGO 50% off sale. I was intrigued and curious to find out if this marker eyeliner was going to end my search for the perfect marker eyeliner.

Packaging
  • This liner comes in a marker-type packaging with a short and fine felt tip applicator. I like that the tip is very thin, which is great for precision application. Although the tips isn't too soft or stiff, it's a bit too short for my liking because I have to do several short strokes in order to line my eyes.
  • .036 oz or 1.1 ml

Product
  • Carbon Black is a pretty deep and saturated black that looks matte as it dries.
  • Judging from the swatch itself, you may be able to tell already that this liner was dry. It didn't have much juice in it, which made the application a pain. The felt tip was tugging and skipping, resulting in uneven application. I tried shaking it to see if that helped but it didn't. Needless to day, I didn't have any luck at making this liner look half decent on my eyes. It feels too dry and it was just too complicated trying to get a straight line.
  • When I swatched it on my hand, it wasn't half as bad and when I did the rub test, it smudged just a bit so overall, it was holding strong.

Final Thought

Once again, I am being let down by another marker eyeliner. I've had pretty much no luck with these type of applicators. They would make eyeliner a breeze to apply but I've yet to find one that flows flawlessly. I think it's time I call it quit. NYX Super Skinny Marker Carbon Black is too dry, skippy, and difficult to get a straight line due to the lack of juice. Not worth the price. I need to return this.

  1. What a shame--the swatch looks lovely. I have so much trouble with liquid liner but I'm getting a little better at it, I would really prefer to find a good marker though for ease of use. Seems they don't exist though.

    1. Marker eyeliners would be easier to use if they can get it right but I often have an issue with the flow of the product. What I love about liquid liners is that they last better on me.

  2. Ah, so dissapoiting... I was really expecting to read a good review as it is so hard to find a good pen eyeliner.
So far I'm happy with my Rimmel one ;)

  3. Have you tried the liquid liner from Jessie's Girl? This brand can be found at Rite-Aid not sure if you have one around you-but I am in LOVE with it. So much so that I stocked up on multiples!
