Sinful Shine With Gel Tech Alfresco - Swatch and Review

I usually don't wear nail polishes long enough to do an official review but since this is a new formula and product, I think a lot of you may be interested in hearing about how this polish performs.

I was excited to give this new Sinful Shine color a try because it seems like it could be a potentially better formula than their regular Sinful Color polishes. I've yet to meet a polish from Sinful Colors that blows my mind. I'm just not a fan of their formula in general. I've had better luck with other inexpensive brands like Pure Ice.

Anyways, I think the fact that this was new, I found the color rather appealing and different from what I have, and that it was merely $2.99, I felt like I had a good reason to scoop it up.

Apparently, Sinful Colors claims that you'll get rich color and brilliant shine finish with this new Gel Tech formula and that you'll get a shine that is glossier than a patent leather shoe. Let's see if this one is living up to the claim.

Alfresco is a medium periwinkle blue with just a hint of purple undertone. I find this color very calming. I've noticed that under bright natural sunlight, it can look almost neon but in the shade the color is soft and subtle.
When I applied it, it appeared to have some micro pearly white shimmers in it but it dries down looking like a  cream. The formula again failed to impress me. This polish was very thick and it was hard to spread the color evenly. Don't even bother going over your brush stroke because it will pull and drag almost instantly as you apply it. Definitely must wait a couple minutes between coats. I can get opaque coverage in 2 coats but some nails required a third coat just to even out the application. Honestly, on the third coat, I was worried that my nail was going to look caked on since it's pretty thick.

Dry time is average but I did find that it dried faster than their regular line. I definitely notice a difference in the overall look. It's not ultra glossy but it certainly has a nice shine to it. It also felt really smooth once it dried giving you the appearance of gel nail polish.

Overall, application was a pain and when I repainted my nails with this color, I added more nail thinner in it because I just couldn't stand the thickness of the polish. The only bright side of it is that once you are done finagling with the application, it does look pretty nice.

I am currently still wearing this on my nails and have had it on for 6 days now and it really wears like iron. Almost as good as the day I painted my nails. Very minimal tip wear, no chipping at all. I'm pretty sure it will still look intact for few more days but I'm getting tired of the color now and I have other polishes to swatch so it will be coming off this weekend.

And one last note before I let you decide if you need to try them, is that the Sinful Shine colors are only available at Walgreens.

The application was a pain but the wear is better than average. What do you think? Is this color worth the trouble?

  1. It looks really good for 6 days! I got the color "Picante" and didn't have much trouble with the application - it's definitely thicker than their regular stuff, and there was some drag - but not too bad. It wore really well too!

  4. That's a unique color and you made it look really nice, but I'm not sure I would trouble with it, even if it is only $3 :P I just can't stand thick draggy polish. It's as bad as super-thin runny polish, in my opinion!!

    1. The good thing is with thick polishes, I can always thin it down to my liking with nail polish thinner. However, I can't do anything with thin and runny polishes, maybe layer them if they have shimmers or glitters.

  5. I almost picked up this very shade of SinfulShine polish the other night while I was in Walgreens, but talked myself out of it because I just have a ton of untried polishes. Even though the color is beautiful, I hate finicky formulas. Glad I passed now.

  6. That is a gorgeous color but sad to hear that the formula is thick and hard to work with. I was thinking about buying this shade but will probably wait for them to go on sale since the formula doesn't sound too appealing to me.

  7. I found the formula to be just fine. It covered no less than any other polish. In fact, I found the coverage much better than most with only one coat of application. I did decide to go for two coats since I think one coat is rare for almost all polishes. I'm not sure about wear time yet since I haven't had it on long enough yet, but overall this is a winner. It's extremely glossy and easy to apply.
