Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Khol Kajal Review and Swatches

I don't know if you're like me but most eye products that have the word waterproof or smudge-proof slapped on it gets my attention. Today, I will be reviewing three shades from the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Khol Kajal.

Initally, I only purchased two to try but I picked up the third color at a different store because it wasn't available when I first spotted them.

What these claim to do
  • high intensity pigment for instant color impact
  • ultra smooth and creamy formula glides on easily
  • smudge-proof, waterproof, and scandal-proof (what does that mean, lol? I thought they were supposed to be scandalous)
  • dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested

  • Taupe - medium cool tone greyish brown
  • Nude - light nude with a slight peachy tone to it

  • Light Blue - lovely light sky blue

Packaging
  • Eye pencil liners that will require sharpening
  • 0.042 oz or 1.2 g
Product
  • These liners do somewhat feel creamy and have a waxy texture and feel to it. Because of that waxy texture, they are not as creamy as some other liners I've triedd, however they do stay put very well.
  • I would assume that most people would purchase Nude for the waterline, which was also my intent, and on me it last a couple hours there so that's not too bad I think.
  • The shade I had the most struggle with was Taupe and I know many people are after this color. I don't know if mine was just a dud or maybe it just doesn't like me but I had a hard time getting a smooth application with this one. It definitely pulled and tug a lot more than the other two shades. Not only that but I didn't find the color flattering on my eyes. It makes my eyes look very dull. If you take a good look on the swatch above, it doesn't look as smooth as the other shades. It seems patchier. I would not recommend this shade unless you have fair skin, otherwise it really does not enhance my eyes. I really wanted to love this one but it didn't work for me.
  • The application and pigmentation on Nude and Light Blue were far better than Taupe.
  • When applied on the lash line, these colors last me all day without smudging and fading, which is pretty awesome. Not too many pencil liners can do that for me.
  • I tested them with water and they are not waterproof but more like water resistant. So if you end up crying with these on, they may slightly fade but they won't smear all over your eyes.
Final Thought

Aside from Taupe, I am happy with these liners for their creamy and pigmented texture and long-wear quality. I do still wish they would be just a tad more smooth during application. I think they hyped up the claims a bit more than they truly deserved, otherwise these liners are still worth checking out.

My rating: 8/10.

For anyone how has tried Taupe. What did you think of it? Did you have better luck than I did?

  1. I found Nude to be creamy and easy to apply but it wasn't very long lasting on my waterline. It's strange because the swatch on my hand was so hard to get off, but it fades quickly everytime I wear it on the waterline.

    1. It's hard to find a product that will stay on the waterline, let alone a nude pencil. Do you use a q-tip to absorb the moisture from your waterline before you apply it? I find that this helps. Then again I suppose it depends also on how moist your waterline gets.

  2. I would definetly like nude for the waterline even if it lasted a short while - nude color liners are hard to come by!

    1. That is true and for that price, I think it's worth a try.

  3. I'm always looking to try smudge-proof liners. I've only found one brand's that doesn't cause me to have panda eyes.
These sound alright, but the color payoff isn't too appealing :T

    1. Not sure what you mean by the color payoff. These are rather pigmented. I know the swatches on my eyes are meh but just to give you an idea of the color. I would not wear them like that in real life. With the right makeup, these will look nice.

  4. Thank you for the great review ! I think that the nude shade would be perfect to line your bottom water line to create a more 'awake' look not with a harsh color for say white :)!
